I couldn't stop overeating...
so I did something about it.
Years ago, my friend Kate Northrup sent me this card with an inscription reading, “I saw this card and thought of you.”
I’ve always been “Type A.”
I was always “making things happen” and, for the most part, whatever I set my mind to I succeeded at.
Except when it came to “dieting,” healthy eating, and my body.
Now, the fitness and healing part, those I could do.
If there was a bootcamp or workout plan I could commit to in order to reshape my body, I’d be there extra. Eight bootcamps per week? Done. Easy. No problem.
(BTW – that’s not how to lose weight, heal your body, or get lasting results… just to make that abundantly clear. )
If I had a crazy diagnosis I was told was incurable, within months or years, I could reverse it with healthy eating and lifestyle changes. I only needed to comply 80% of the time to get the majority of the desires results.
But changing the SHAPE of my body? Getting it to look “how I wanted it to look”… that was a different story.
While 80% compliance to a healthy nutrition plan could heal my body of illnesses enough to significantly improve my quality of life, that last 20% – where I was compulsively overeating – kept my from the true health, physique, and results I wanted.
Eighty percent of the time, I ate amazingly healthy and didn’t overeat at all. But it was that last 20%…
No matter what diet or meal plan I did…
I simply could not stop overeating!
I’d think, “Why can’t I accomplish this ONE THING? I can do everything else! What’s wrong with me? What’s wrong with these diets? Why can’t I find a diet that I can stick to?”
I felt helpless, frustrated, embarrassed, and angry.
It turns out that nothing was wrong with me or the diets. The problem was that I was asking the wrong questions and looking for the answers in the wrong places.
I was looking outside myself – at achievements, diets, and exercise – for an answer to the real, internal question: “WHY was I overeating in the first place?”
Answering that question for myself, every day, then doing something about it is how I finally stopped overeating, healed my relationship with food, and finally got results with my body.
If you’d have told me 10 years ago when I was sick, overweight, and feeling completely “out of control” with my eating, that today I’d be helping successful women stop overeating, I would have laughed in your face while finishing off the last of my wine and “family-sized” box of Cheese-its.
Never in a million years could I have predicted that I’d be doing and loving this work.
But here I am today helping amazing women create fun, loving relationships with their bodies and food so they can finally get the results they want.
You can stop overeating, too.
Until I addressed the REAL reasons I was overeating every day, no diet or exercise plan ever had a chance of working. Today, I have the ability to follow any dietary theory, create any body, and do any exercise program I want – and succeed at my personal goals!
All without overeating, counting calories, carbs, macros… in fact, today I don’t count anything but blessings!
